HORSE RESCUED

Breaks Through Floor of Hayloft of Old Barn

Firemen early Thursday morning had a special call to rescue a horse in distress.

The animal, which firemen said, "was on the far side of 20," had wandered into the hayloft of an old barn at 199 Bowan Street, and had broken through the floor.

Resting with three legs above and one leg through the boards, it was unable to free itself. Because of its age the horse was completely exhausted by its struggles when firemen arrived.

They placed ropes under the animal's body, then "heaved!" The horse, which belonged to Frank Bakey, was quickly rescued. It, apparently, was uninjured.
